Last Oct 14th, newest unit “The MONSTERS” formed by SMAP‘s Shingo Katori and Yamashita Tomohisa made a surprise performance during SMAP’s Ajinomoto concert.
The unit was formed in lieu of their upcoming TBS drama, MONSTERS, where they will play a senior and a rookie detective. Moreover, the duo also has an upcoming debut single with the same title of the drama. Shingo also promised that he and YamaPi will continue their activity in the future, which includes album sales, tour, and a wild rampage of “monster” class.
Upon the entrance of this monstrous combination, 55,000 fans cheered as YamaPi and Shingo shouted, “We are MONSTERS“. It took the two of them a month to composed the song. During the song part, cheers turned to screams just before the “brink of the kiss” between the two.
Yamashita shared that his first stage experience for “The MONSTERS” was different, “My mind went blank as I only had 3 hours of sleep”, he shared. Katori, being the supportive senior gave YamaPi a much needed boost, “we need a MONSTER start,” Katori said before they went on stage and was greeted by a tremendous cheer that gave YamaPi goosebumps. “We need to start of as the best,” Katori said, who was extremely grateful for the fans acceptance.
YamaPi and Shingo have proven that their combination will be an outstanding one. Both have trust with each other, “I love to hear my junior’s opinions,” Shingo shared. “I was able to study him [Shingo] as a professional”, Yamapi added. As the”leader” of this duo, Shingo got lots of plans for them, ” I want to make 15 songs for our album, maybe a [2nd] single, then a tour”.
With those plans, it’s impossible that this MONSTER unit will be dissolve anytime soon.
TBS “MONSTERS” drama will start on Oct 21st while their 1st single “MONSTER” will be released on Nov 28th.
