Arashi and Johnny’s WEST Big Win at The 29th Japan Gold Disc Award

Congratulations to Arashi and Johnny’s WEST for their first-ever win!

Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) announced the winners for the “29th Japan Gold Disc Award” (GD Award) last Mar 2nd.

Taking home Artist of the Year” for the first time in four years is Arashi. In the Western category, British boyband One Direction take home the crown for second consecutive year. AKB48‘s “Labrador Retriever” wins Single of Year and it’s their 5th consecutive win.

According to RIAJ’s statistics from Jan 1st to Dec 31st, 2014, Arashi sold 935,504 albums (THE DIGITALIAN), 1,964,292 singles, and  1,442,527 music videos (DVDs of Arafes 2013 and Arashi Live Tour 2013 “LOVE”). The said figures made Arashi the Artist of the Year after four years.

Aside from Arashi, Johnny’s WEST won New Artist of the Year and their western counterpart winner is Ariana Grande. It’s Johnny’s WEST first award.

> Best Asian artist – DBSK/ TVXQ

> Best enka artist – Nakamori Akina

> New Artist of the Year (Asia) – BTS/Bangtan Boys

>Album of the Year (Japan) – Tsugi no Ashiato by AKB48

> Album of the Year (Western) – 1989 by Taylor Swift

> Album of the Year (Asia) – Tree by TVXQ

> Song of the Year – Let it Go (Japanese version) by Matsu Takako

> Song of the Year (Western/World) – Let it Go by Idina Menzel

> Song of the Year (Asia) – Indestructible (Girl’s Generation)

> Special award – Anna and the Snowqueen Original Soundtrack

  1. Aww, I’m really happy for Johnny’s West – I hope this is a chance for them to gain more means/a higher quality in terms of anything~
    (Not that they’re bad, but a little more attention and innovation could probably do wonders!)
