Who Rules the CMs in Johnny’s?

Aside from CD, DVD, concert, and goodies sales, CM (commercial movie) also puts on a huge chunk to Johnny‘s coffers. Aside from monopolizing most ikemens in Japan, Johnny’s talents also monopolizes most CMs in Japan. However, some of the most after-sought celebrities are also getting CMs now like Korean stars and Japanese actors, like: Matsuda Ryuhei, Tsumabuki Satoshi, and Oguri Shun. Nevertheless, CM is an important source of income of most Johnny’s talents, and whose getting it now?

“Right now, the most expensive is Arashi (5-members). Although SMAP used to be in the lead, it all change in 2010. The standard payment for each company (hiring Arashi) is 150 million Yen/year. Most companies also used Johnny’s for their advertisement. SMAP now only has 120 million Yen/year per company and it is only for Softbank CM that they appeared as a group. Though SMAP is cheaper than Arashi, Arashi is more influential as a group and more friendly,” according to an advertising professional.

However, when it comes to individual endorsements, Kimura Takuya is still the leader. Kimura is under seven companies and commands 50 million Yen. An Arashi member also commands almost the same fee but is only tied to 2 or 3 companies.

It is Yamashita Tomohisa who continues a good fight when it comes to CM. Before leaving NEWS, Yamashita commands 30-40 million Yen for CMs; Yamashita got more edge with his break with Kamenashi Kazuya for their “Shuji to Akira” collaboration. Moreover, Yamashita has been the face of Toshiba Dynabook since 2007-2012. However, Yamashita’s career have been slow since going solo and he has yet to make a hit single and drama. He used to endorsed 5-6 companies before, but now he’s down to only 2.

Despite Yamashita’s decline with CMs, Kanjani8 has been emerging. Aside from their SCALABO cm, which featured all members, the members are also having their own CMs from Nishikido Ryo (Denny’s) and Murakami Shingo (HottoMotto).

This is like an editorial/opinion post that I got from cyzo and I have some objections. LOL.

As far as I know, SMAP also appeared as a group for 7netshopping, but I don’t know if they got paid the same amount that Softbank paid for them. But if 120 million Yen is the “standard” fee, then it must be.

As for Kimura Takuya being the leader with most CMs (from different companies), I couldn’t agree more; but Sakurai Sho has also individual endorsements under his belt (Ajinomoto, J!INS, Oronamin C, and Pino).

As with Kanjani8, the group is indeed having more CMs (Morinaga, CC Cider, music.jp) but I’m not too sure how much they are getting paid. LOL. I also think it’s cute that a family restaurant like Denny’s hired Ryo to endorse their company and Shingo must be enjoying his hotto motto bento.XD.

Lastly, why is Kamenashi Kazuya not mentioned? Though I also don’t know how much he earns in CM but he got Panasonic, Kirin, Aoki, SOURS, and entag! under his belt and there’s Suzuki Solio with KAT-TUN.

The article mostly talks about earnings (other than the random plug for K8) so that could be why they didn’t mention Tokio, Toma, Kame and the other members of Arashi. But they should have mentioned Okada and Smap’s Tsuyoshi and Shingo at least.

Oh, and Yamapi only endorsed 3 companies (Kirin & Toshiba individually, dwango with NEWS) before going solo and he still earns around 30mil per CM according to other media. But it’s not a good sign that he hasn’t signed many long contracts since then.

Even if Arashi members are tied to only 2-3 companies each, that makes it ANY arashi member–from Ohno to Aiba to Sakurai to Matsumoto to Ninomiya–commanding near the same fee that Kimutaku does (although last Kimutaku CM fee i read was 90M yen). Does Inagaki Goro command CM fees close to Kimutaku’s?

As i see it, equality, or at least close to it, is being maintained in Arashi. They don’t have ‘2top’, ‘3/4’ or whatever dividing concept their agency seems to apply in other groups, which is a good thing. They might just last a bit longer on top because of it.

I don’t think Goro has the same amount of endorsement fees. Anyway, as I said, Sakurai is endorsing 5 different companies- alone. If you add what he earns with his CMs with Arashi, that’s a lot. And that’s the reason why Arashi is in the lead.

If by 2top you meant SMAP, than you’re wrong. It’s not splitting in group, it’s name of pairing among fans, like sakuraiba or ohmiya. Nothing more.
